The Power Beyond UsOn May 25, 2017 by Yara
I come from a long route of mental illness, which we have to admit, although it is felt differently by everyone, it has become the norm. Albeit it is a futile inner-discord, the world does not end there. It does not. It is there to teach us to be strong. It is there to learn how to face our own inner battles and it’s the greatest of all battes. It will lead us in life through whatever obstacle we face. Prophet Mohamed (PBUH) – the prophet of Islam – said that, “the greatest Jihad (struggle) is to battle your own soul, to fight the evil within yourself.”
I have enlisted the steps that can help remedy towards a break-through. It is not scientific, but it did really aid me and I really hope it does for others too. It may seem to a lot of people out there that it is as hard as a mission but it is really as simple as could be. If only started rehearsing. No doubt that even at start it will be as hard but like any pro, you have to exercise it and practise it hard until it becomes easy and habitual. Remember, if you are reading this now, you have made it through a lot already…ALIVE; you have taken patience through a lot. I am sure that you can take patience in learning to become better.
I always try to be optimistic to stick around and give myself a reason to stay the next day even if I allow the pain to creep in, but I hope this article would be a break-through to those who need it.
You all should have learnt about Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs in an early age, at school or somewhere else. To break it down again to you, here is an image of what the hierarchy looks like:
It starts from the bottom up. Physiological Needs: are the needs for the simplest things such as food, water, clothes, sex…etc. Safety/Security Needs: are the needs to feel safe, such as having a roof above your head. Belonging/Social Needs: are the demand for the family, friendship, relationships, love etc. Self-Esteem Needs: the need to feel accomplished, respect or prestige. Lastly Self-Actualization/Ego Needs: The need to reach full potential and to reach actualization of one’s own creativity and who they are.
We are all capable of reaching these five major needs; however, people usually reach to the Esteem Needs and start falling back, only rare few people reach to the Ego Needs. The question is why and how?
What are the steps towards achieving these Needs?
Well first of all, we have to recognize four major steps:
1- Realize that you have a problem that you need to solve: and that is to have a dream or goal that you need to meet, people might realize they do have it all: the goals, the dreams and the plan but yet fail, why? Because they do not understand how to reach them? They do not have the potential? Something keeps pulling them back? That brings down to the next step
2- You realize that you need to emancipate yourself from mental slavery and thus, acquire the life you desire: You know it is within you to extract this negative energy, you just need a push, something to give you a great hope that something of your desired results maybe accomplished, you have the willingness, you keep telling yourself, “if they can do it, why can’t I do it” and thereby, you become less motivated and have less potential to do anything, you still do not understand how to do this step, which brings us to the most important steps of all.
3- Positivism: No one understands this step well, and no one tries, simply because its unanimously hard to perceive this step since it requires you to constantly be on hold of your mentality. What I mean by that is: back at my school assembly, teachers and students did something very intelligent and miraculous, it personally changed the way I saw life, and I thought to myself, “Damn, it is not what life does to you, it is what you do with your life, how you see it and what you think that makes the life you live.”
They brought a chair, sat a slightly heavy weighted person on it, say a rugby boy, and got four girls to attach their own pointy fingers together and each one would carry him individually from an underarm and under-kneecap, what happened first time was that they could not carry him, and they never believed they could. The next step was, our teacher asked them all, the girls and the boy, to close their eyes and think of their happy place or think of the memories that made them happy or of anything that just makes them happy, it took them a few seconds then they repeated the experiment again. It came as a surprise that it worked the next time and they carried him high and they did not feel any weight or pressure, simply because their minds were in the right state at the right time. If one could teach themselves how to think properly they will make things the way they wanted.
Another example was at a leadership camp, when we were put to a challenge: we all had to use our pointy fingers to carry together a cane down to the ground, we had such difficulty in achieving this, instead of carrying it down, we carried it up, it was an inevitable performance that put us all in struggle and anxiety, so one of us asked all to stop and take a minute to close our eyes to relax and think of our happy place, the next thing is we all counted down 1,2,3 and carried it down a bit and repeated this in a chain until the cane was on the floor.
So what happened here is as following: we tried and we failed but kept trying until we made ourselves think positively to prevail excellence. To some it might seem ridiculous or stupid or perhaps dramatic but it is of excellent results. When we put ourselves to think well and happily we can do anything, when our brains are right mentally we surprise ourselves. It takes a lot of effort, the reason people do not continue doing it because of failure, they give up too soon, thus, getting hopeless too soon, not realizing that failing is important. In Unlimited Power by Anthony Robbins, failures were seen as results not failures, they were the main reasons why we get better at something and keep trying and trying to gather different methods until we find the right strategies to achieve the results we wanted. Abraham Lincoln was an example when he lost the elections and his sweetheart died and more and more and eventually, he won the elections and became a remarkable president. Once you finally get yourself used to achieving the little simple things by positivism, you become able to change your mindset and achieve greater things and you become so used to thinking right before anything, you feel happier and content and when you get used to these, it brings you to the last step.
4- Believe: You believe when you see how many things worked out with a positive mind. You will be surprised. When you believe something would happen because you accepted what you saw as results and not failures; you learn from them to improve yourself and know of surety that you will become what you want to be. You, ultimately, release yourself from the depressing prison, recurrently, and choose the life you want and make it come true.
These are the basis of psychology, how to get the positivism you need in your life. This therapy that helps you gain the purpose of living, is done differently and we all have our own autonomous happy realm that we dream of and that of which makes us happy.
If you look at all these steps, they all help you attain the self-esteem you want, the potential ego you want and the life you want; everything you had always dreamed of. It requires brainteasers and a lot of patience, but it is worth it after all, and nothing is too late. Remember, Positivism is a practice, they all lie within us, we need to search for it. You have powers that you have never yet discovered. It lies under your heart, let it flow out and witness the miracles.
